SEA 297-MOR Morocco: The Legacy of Colonialism (Mark Freyberg & Ali Madanipour); ECC: Global Perspective This course explores effects of colonialism on contemporary Morocco through on-campus lectures and two weeks of observation in urban and rural Morocco. Lectures provide a brief history of Morocco and an overview of Western influence on contemporary Moroccan society. Students will learn how inequality is created and sustained by colonial and post-colonial social forces (economic, legal and cultural), and how inequality emerges within and between nations in a globalizing world. Students will complete short quizzes, a pre-travel essay, an interfolio photo project and a reflective journal. Destinations include Casablanca on the coast, Marrakesh in the High Atlas Mountains, and at least one rural village where we will complete a service project. Priority application deadline for May Term 2019: Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Selection decisions announced via email from the OIE for applications received by the priority deadline: Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Applications received after October 2 will be processed on a rolling basis. Those selection decisions will be announced approximately two weeks after the application is submitted.
