Program Description

SEA 197-ASI What’s a Wat?: Understanding Business and Culture in Thailand and Vietnam (Marilyn Mueller, Kelly Swinton & John Walker); ECC: Global Perspective

In this travel course, students will gain firsthand experience with the cultural, religious and economic realities of Thailand and Vietnam. We will visit US-based and local businesses operating in SE Asia, tiny market stalls lining the streets, and temples where worship intersects with daily life. We will see up close how and why things work in these ancient countries which are trying to find their places in a modern, entrepreneurial and global economy. Through preparatory work in spring 2019, students will learn about the cultural, political, economic, religious and business backgrounds, as well as the entrepreneurial spirit in both countries.

Priority application deadline for May Term 2019: Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Selection decisions announced via email from the OIE for applications received by the priority deadline: Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Applications received after October 2 will be processed on a rolling basis. Those selection decisions will be announced approximately two weeks after the application is submitted.
