SEA 297- AIT Music in Italy and Austria with Music at Simpson (Tim McMillin & Kim Roberts); ECC: Global Perspective Western Europe, and particularly Austria and Italy, has been exemplary in its continuous patronage of music and musicians. This course will explore the historically significant sites in the development of Western Music, the modern manifestation of musical patronage, and how musicians are giving back through children’s outreach and refugee support throughout Italy and, to a lesser extent, Austria. Students will be expected to present a 20 minute in-class presentation, complete several reading assignments and accompanying 2-page reflections, keep an instructor-guided journal of the travel experience, and participate in cultural exchange assignments and opportunities while travelling. Note: Participation in or attendance at choral performances will be expected of all travel participants. Priority application deadline for May Term 2019: Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Selection decisions announced via email from the OIE for applications received by the priority deadline: Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Applications received after October 2 will be processed on a rolling basis. Those selection decisions will be announced approximately two weeks after the application is submitted.
