SEA 297-ISJ Religion, History, and Culture in Israel and Jordan (Mark Gammon); ECC: Global Perspective & Intercultural Communication Preliminary cost estimate: $5,800 plus $75 for books, $150 for meals not covered by course fee, and $145 passport fee, if needed. Anticipated length of time abroad: 15 days Students will explore the intersections among religion, history, and contemporary culture by visiting a number of sites in Jordan and Israel. Using a variety of analytical tools, we will discern how the contemporary Middle East is a product of various historical and cultural movements over thousands of years, with special focus on the region’s importance to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Priority application deadline for May Term 2020: Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Selection decisions announced via email from the OIE for applications received by the priority deadline: Tuesday, October 8, 2019. Applications received after October 1 will be processed on a rolling basis. Those selection decisions will be announced approximately two weeks after the application is submitted.
